Word Spies conduct rules

Last updated: October 28, 2026. Word Spies is a word game. Play hard, trash-talk a bad clue, disagree about anything you like. Just don't use the game to hurt people.

Not allowed

These apply to display names, chat, clues, custom word lists and anything else you put in a game, in public and private rooms alike.

Targeted harassment: going after a specific person with insults, slurs, mockery or repeated messages they clearly don't want.
Hate: attacking or demeaning people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or similar traits.
Sexual exploitation: any sexual content involving minors, and sexual messages or images sent to someone who didn't ask for them.
Threats: threatening or encouraging violence or self-harm against anyone.
Doxxing: sharing someone's private information (real name, address, phone, school, workplace, photos) without their permission.
Spam: ads, scams, link flooding, or bots that aren't part of the game.

What we don't moderate

We act on conduct, not opinions. An unpopular view, a dark joke between friends or a word that sounds rude out of context is not a violation by itself. We look at who it was aimed at and what it was meant to do.

Private rooms are private. We don't read them or scan them with AI. We only look at a private game when someone in it reports something, or when there's a credible safety concern.

Reporting

In team chat, use Report on the message. Block hides that player's messages from you (in every game if you're signed in).
On a finished game or replay, use Report game for a name, custom words or anything else in it.
On an AI turn, use Report under its reasoning if the AI said something harmful.

Please don't file fake or mass reports. Abusing the report button is itself a violation.

What happens next

A person reviews every report. Depending on how serious it is, we may take a replay down, restrict an account for a while, or ban it permanently. A restricted account can't sign in, and loses chat and everything else that needs an account. We keep the reported content for as long as we need it to look into the report. If you think we got it wrong, email us and we'll take another look.
